Our Co-Op Model
Metchosin Co-Op Preschool is a parent-governed, parent-participation program for children aged 2.5 to 5 years old. Operating under the co-op model for over 70 years, the Preschool has succeeded as a direct result of the enthusiasm and dedication of the families, teachers and other community members that show their support through fundraising, volunteering, donations and enrollment.
Depending on class size, parents are required to spend one or two mornings a month with their child's class as the 'Duty Parent' ...a role that often delights not only the child but the parent as well. Parents are also required to participate in monthly parent education sessions, led by qualified guest speakers, as well as attend preschool meetings. These take place once a month.
Parents are also expected to actively support the preschool fundraisers throughout the year; these events are always very fun and memorable, but are also absolutely vital to the operation of the school. Families who cannot participate in fundraising/parent participation days have the option of paying an opt-out fee.
